As challenging as the headline suggests, Hong Kong is considered a common global concern within the coming half of the century. This is commonly known that the old good legacy of Hong Kong “small fishery village” turned global financial hub vanished, upon the past 5–10 years of turmoil, socially, politically, economically and most importantly, psychologically.

While the current social system has been collapsing, all generations feel panic for the next decade.

As much the term may have been abused, “Resilience” shall be the word of 2020. In the waves of all unpredictability, the largest and first vaccine is “Resilience”, where it shall be found commonly in partnership, development agenda and collective psychology in humankind.

A Cognitive Model of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder(Ehlers and Clark, 2000)

What exactly is it about psychology in the city and cities?

Applying a scholastic psychology analysis, as human experiences continuous traumas in society, it grows negative appraisal and hence memory and emotions with failed coping strategies.

As Hong Kong has been the one and the extraordinary one experiencing such socio-political-economic trauma in the past decade, the city possesses ALL socio-political-economic development issues and failures a city can have.

Hong Kong hence perfectly represents a problem statement for common development that other emerging cities in the world shall witness:

In simple words, how shall we do together, to rebuild the failed city-state from the burnt ashes and dusts?

When company is no longer simply a tool for profitability, and government is no more influential as a top-down authority, all stakeholders shall, like genetic reverse-engineering, realign and find a new common ground in the face of all century challenges, that no party can single-handedly address.

A hypothetical formula applying in Future City Summit(200 stakeholder-summit scale)

As the 5th Future City Summit continuously planned, the team strives to adopt certain relevant models and begins to search for more insights for larger common ground, wisdom, experience, cases and principles that can be well experimented.

A Cognitive Model of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder(Ehlers and Clark, 2000): Appraisal, Memory and Coping Strategies.

The proposed Common Development Agenda as part of the potential outcome / coping strategy shall evolve 4(even more) principles of Urban Economic Design for Resilience:

  1. Planning for The Next 50 Years (at least), Generational Design-Thinking
  2. Dynamic Urban Governance with Excellent Leadership and Wisdom
  3. Technological and Digital Inclusion for The Bottom of The Pyramid
  4. Regional Shared Values for Well-Being, Concept of “The City and Cities”

Good City Foundation, Rainmaker Ventures and Global Partners — as they all converge to Hong Kong

4 Years of development in Good City Foundation and Rainmaker Ventures, together with 35 City Partners and other regional stakeholders, that connects Hong Kong to emerging a spectrum of emerging cities in Asia and Africa, has come to a milestone of building 2 family offices in Jakarta and Bangkok, with 6 impactful ventures in multiple but inter-connected development challenges.

As much as the group has been enjoying established resources in the region, it turns to a year of converging all partnership to Hong Kong, completing the circle of influence, insights and impact.

The Future City Summit 2020 aims to add a drop of support to the rebuilding of Hong Kong as a new global resilient city for all, that matters Asia and the world.

Convergence of ventures: lifestyle and hospitality(Sun Sang Village, Bali), affordable housing(1001Teras, Jakarta) and digital financial inclusion(PearlPay, Manila)

A Call of Commitment : Future City Summit 2020

The 5th Anniversary of Future City Summit is much a calling of actions and a summit of venture of ventures and network of networks to converge to Hong Kong.

As Future City Summit has been stressing the focus of emerging cities in Asia and Africa in the past 4 years, the lenses this year have been flipped opposite to focus on converging regional and continental stakeholders to Hong Kong.
